Why another currency converter?
I (the author of this application) needed to quickly perform casual currency conversions relatively often, but found that none of
the available converters are particularly practical at that...
They often have complicated (and non-standard) ways of selecting currencies,
and/or entering amounts, and/or limit themselves to only 2 currencies at a time...
None of the dozen I tried had what I wanted, so I decided to do one myself :)
And I also wanted to learn Objective-C and see what this new mobile platform was all about :)
The video above will give you a good overview of how the application is operated.
Your
feedback is welcome. I will follow up on all suggestions :)
My usage scenarios are:
- Create currency pairs for all the currencies I'm interested in right now
- For some, I only look at the current rate shown in the main menu (like Barrel of Oil, or Gold prices for example)
- When I'm abroad, I have a currency pair set up with the currency of the country I'm in, and I use that currency pair view whenever
I have a price I don't want to convert in my head :)
- I use currency lists to satisfy my curiosity mostly :)
- The links to wikipedia articles are often very handy to have, especially when traveling abroad
- I turn auto-updates off when abroad, and update the rates manually (preferably when on a Wi-Fi network to avoid roaming charges)
Since you have read this far, let me share with you what's coming up next in version 1.2 of Currency Master (early 2010):
- Historical trend chart for most currencies, showing 1 month, 3 months, ... up to 10 years of price trends
- Option to replace current keyboard with a simple calculator
- Inflation data for each currency (as stated by Wikipedia)
- Settings control panel (to change the color scheme used, whether to shadow decimal part of numbers, etc...)
- Ability to change the current language dynamically (without restarting the application)
- Ability to switch back and forth from the current drill-down UI to a tab-bar UI (without restarting the application)
- iPad version (same .app, but taking advantage of the bigger screen real-estate)
Hope you like the application. You're
feedback is welcome. And thank you for your interest in Currency Master.
